Sports

At St Loys we are privileged to have a plethora of skilled staff to deliver a wide range of activities and sports as well as an extensive range of sports and activity equipment.

Please read about our Sports Premium Funding by clicking on Sports Premium page under our Children tab.

For Junior P.E. we have the experience of Pacesetters Sports providers to enhance the physical education of the St Loys children.

In conjunction with the fitness expertise of Mrs Sarah Williams and Class Teachers, the children are involved in the following sports:

Athletics, Tag Rugby, Basketball, Hockey, Volleyball, Dodgeball, Tennis, Gym, Netball, Dance, Football and Handball.

The sessions are planned with 10-15 minutes of fitness exercises incorporating aerobic exercises as well as strength exercises. Then followed by sports skills in the sports stated above, building up on skill level and enabling all the children to be able to take part in games and the competitive nature of the sport. Children certainly benefit from this form of structure in their PE lesson which enables them to reach increased fitness levels and, together with the Pacesetters sports skills, builds them up to be able to enjoy even more varied sports and skills.

The school is also lucky enough to have England Cricket who come in during the Summer Term to teach the Juniors Cricket and, in Year 5, the children take up the Bikeability challenge with Cycling England.

Sports activities after school at St Loys are just as extensive. With the school hall we are able to incorporate a range of providers to come in and deliver the following:

  • Basketball with Hot Shots
  • Judo with Dan Saul
  • Tag Rugby* with St Loys
  • A whole range of activities offered by the daily After School Club

During some holidays there are Family Bootcamp sessions and the School Sports Day is one of the highlights of the school's sporting year.

St Loys has been awarded a Silver Sainsbury’s Schools Games Mark award for 2014/15:

The Sainsbury's School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels of the Mark.

In order to achieve any level of the Sainsbury’s School Games Mark schools must ensure that they have a system in place to track young people’s participation in School Games and must offer opportunities that attract less active young people to participate in physical activity.

Self-belief, determination, respect, teamwork, honesty and passion are the values that represent the spirit of the Sainsbury’s School Games. They support young people to strive to do their best and help them to achieve sporting success. Preparing well, trying hard, managing setbacks and pursuing excellence are intrinsic to this success – and young people recognise and celebrate that ethos.
